This month’s faery tale is the Turkish story The Silent Princess (and its many variants across cultures), a fascinating tale with threads to and from so many others, which also has meaning today. It appears in Forty-Four Turkish Fairy Tales as well as the The Olive Fairy Book by Nora Lang - oh the irony of a silent princess there!
Have you read the Australian Fairy Tale Society’s anthology South of the Sun yet? It’s a wonderful collection of original stories from some incredible authors - available from @serenitypress and the rebook from Amazon 🧚‍♂️ Cover by amazing artist Lorena Carrington 💙
Congratulations to two AFTS members, magical artist Lorena Carrington and enchanting author Sophie Masson, on their exciting new adventure! Can’t wait to learn more! 💜 xx
Victorian faery tale fans, here is the beautiful poster for our fairy gathering. You might recognise this as Lorena Carrington's iconic cover illustration of our fairytale anthology.
💜 Greetings faery tale lovers!
Posted @withregram • @sereneconneeley April’s topic for our Australian Fairy Tale Society discussions was the Grateful Dead tales, of which there are hundreds of variants. The most well-known is Hans Christian Andersen’s The Travelling Companion, but it’s not the best of them – you can read a huge selection at gutenberg.org/files/39408/39408-h/39408-h.htm… They are strange stories – like most faery tales! – but fascinating, and we had some awesome discussions about the poor man, the good deed, the cursed/evil/witchy/murdering princess, the helpful ghost, the evil sorcerer/wizard/devil, and what can and can’t be redeemed…
